Access 2003 Shortcut Keys

Keys for Selecting Text or Data

All shortcut keys are based on the U.S. keyboard layout. Keys on other layouts may not correspond exactly to the keys on a U.S. keyboard.

For keyboard shortcuts in which you press two or more keys together, the keys to press are separated by a plus sign, like this: SHIFT+F10.
For shortcuts in which you press keys one after the other, the keys to press are separated by a comma, like this: ALT, F, X.

Selecting Text in Fields

To perform this action...

Press...

To extend one character to the right

SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW

To extend one word to the right

CTRL+SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW

To extend one character to the left

SHIFT+LEFT ARROW

To extend one word to the left

CTRL+SHIFT+LEFT ARROW

Note: To cancel a selection, use the opposite arrow key.

Selecting Fields or Records

To perform this action...

Press...

To select the next field

TAB

To switch between Edit mode (with insertion point displayed) and Navigation mode

F2

To switch between selecting the current record and the first field of the current record, in Navigation mode

SHIFT+SPACEBAR

To extend selection to the previous record, if the current record is selected

SHIFT+UP ARROW

To extend selection to the next record, if the current record is selected

SHIFT+DOWN ARROW

To select all records

CTRL+A or CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR

Extending Selections

To perform this action...

Press...

To turn on Extend mode 

F8 (EXT appears in the lower-right corner of the window); pressing F8 repeatedly extends the selection to the word, the field, the record (in Datasheet view only), and all records

To extend a selection to adjacent fields in the same row in Datasheet view

LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW

To extend a selection to adjacent rows in Datasheet view

UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW

To undo the previous extension

SHIFT+F8

To cancel Extend mode

ESC

Selecting and Moving Columns in Datasheet View

To perform this action...

Press...

To select the current column or cancel the column selection

CTRL+SPACEBAR (works in Navigation mode only)

To select the column to the right, if the current column is selected

SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW

To select the column to the left, if the current column is selected

SHIFT+LEFT ARROW

To turn on Move mode CTRL+SHIFT+F8 (use the arrow keys to move selected column(s); press ESC when finished)
