Selecting Specific Cells

For any range of cells, you can specify – up to a point – just which cells in that range you want to select. If, for example, you wanted to select only those cells that contain the number five, you couldn’t do it. But suppose you wanted to select only those cells that contain text. You could do it this way:

  1. Select your range.

  2. Select Go To from the Edit menu (or press Ctrl+G), then click the Special button.

  3. In the Go To Special dialog box, click a button that corresponds to the type of cell you want to select. (To select cells containing text, select Constants, then Text. Deselect the Numbers, Logicals, and Errors check boxes, if necessary.)

  4. Click OK. Excel selects only the cells in the range that contain text.
